The Destiny - a love story

He woke up suddenly, gasping heavily, unable to catch breath. Since three days, nightmares started to haunt Varun, nightmares known only to him. They started then, when he saw Riya for the first time after two years, at the medical camp launched by him, in Assam.

The scenes started to reel in his mind again and again.

***********

"It was an alien world isolated from everyone and everything by an invisible aura".

Varun knew none in that world. None except Riya and she too knew no one. He was searching and searching for her, in every corner of it. His entire body throbbed with the blood - oozing injuries he achieved in search of her. but they never stood a chance against the pain of his heart. He searched and searched but didn't find her.

From far away, a pleasant breeze touched him, the breeze of hope. He found her. HE FOUND HER. His heart was at the verge of bursting with happiness, but his face gave no expression, remained as still as a dead oak.

It seemed that the world moved in slow motion, almost infinitesimal. He saw her directly, she saw him too and the EYES MET.

" Eyes met, still speaking sweet memories, but failed to ignite love".

They ignored each other even in that alien world by drifting away their eyes and walked apart.

***********

" Do I still love her? Why can't I forget her?", his conscience pricked him right through his heart.

"No, I ain't loving her. I can't love her. I won't love her. NO! But, why am I feeling her? Why?"

Immediately, his mind strolled to his memory lane.

***********

It was a rainy day, with wind howling, rain thrashing and clouds rumbling with thunders all over, as if the nature had exact idea of what's going inside his heart. He already lost his world now. He lost Riya. To him, she was his world. The solace for his griefs, the power to spur his ambitions. She was like a breath of fresh air infusing life back in him.

She was beautiful; beautiful in the way the cosmetics cannot contaminate her pristine beauty. Nature carefully took twenty-four years to carve her into a beautiful woman, by looks and by heart. More than everything, she was his true friend, with whom he can share his feelings and ambitions. Her sole presence comforted him more than anything. The best in him was (is) her.

Holding the letter Riya sent to him, he cried, cried like a child, the flow of tears clearly visible even in that heavy downpour. He proposed her. She didn't accept it.

" You're always my true friend, Varun and will be. I cannot love you. I'm sorry, but I have to do this, for you. Hope that time will cure your pain. A princess is waiting for you, I'm not the one. Take care"

After reading this for the seventeenth time, the paper slipped off his hands and touched the ground. It tore into pieces, like his hope which teared into pieces.

After 6 months

He loved Riya infinitely. Nothing could return the love he gave to her. He found that love when he cared orphan children, when he helped the needy. Yes, the society gave back his love. He became a social activist.

***********

He woke up from the bed and moved to the window. Surprisingly, he saw Riya again at a distance. She saw him right into his eyes. A breeze blew from the window. It whispered "You're always my true friend Varun, take care"
